Ask the Expert: What are the Health Benefits of CBD?

Author:  Michelle Girasole
I was recently asked by Cliffs Living Magazine to write an article for their monthly publication on the subject of CBD and the difference between CBD and cannibis/marijuana.  It has been just over a year since our company introduced a CBD oil to the market, with many successes.  I have learned so much about the topic and was happy to share what I know with the Cliffs readers.  I’ll caveat, I was not a pot smoker, so I do not have that to compare, but I have personally enjoyed the benefits of healing oils of the cannabis plant, for headaches, body aches, improved sleep and lower stress.  I have had clients tell me stories that brought me to happy tears, to learn of their relief as well.   Here’s the article, let me know what your questions are!

What are the health benefits of CBD oil and how is it different than cannabis/marijuana?

This year, CBD has become a mainstream conversation topic.  Even medical doctors are recognizing the healing benefits of cannabis.  But is it right for you?

I have personally experienced – and witnessed many customers enjoying – the health benefits of our pure, organic CBD oil, such as:

Stress relief and improved sleep – CBD helps to achieve a sense of relaxation, physically and emotionally. It helps the mind to stop racing, and allows you to rest well and wake up refreshed. It can elevate your mood and help calm worrisome thoughts.

Better managing physical pain. CBD reduces soreness or general aches from challenging work outs or other causes, such as inflammation and arthritis.

Several studies also highlight CBD’s potential as a treatment for these ailments: autoimmune diseases; neurological conditions, such as Alzheimers, dementia, stroke, epilepsy; gut disorders, such as colitis, Chrohn’s disease; skin diseases, such as acne, dermatitis and psoriasis; and other neuro illnesses, such as autism, ADHD and PTSD.

While CBD holds great promise as a healing, safe and non-addictive substance, there still is a stigma about trying it. CBD (cannabidiol) is related to another component of the cannabis plant: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that causes the high that cannabis is famous for.

While both CBD and THC have significant therapeutic attributes, CBD does not make a person feel “stoned” or intoxicated,  because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body.

Many people want the health benefits of cannabis without the high. CBD is an appealing treatment option to medical marijuana, and is easy to take as a CBD oil, especially for those who are cautious about trying cannabis for the first time.
